Call for Volunteers:
Now taking applications for Tour Guide Volunteers!
(Must be at least 21 to apply for this position)
Anniston Museum is currently taking applications for people interested in becoming docent volunteers. Docents are special volunteers who lead school tours for students in first through twelfth grades. If you are interested in becoming a Museum tour guide, we are offering special training sessions to help prepare you for the fun and rewarding task. Docent volunteers must be at least 21 years old and have the ability to communicate well with groups of 25 or more. Our training session will teach tips on leading student tours and how best to handle disruptive students, will offer interesting information on each of the seven permanent exhibit areas, and will provide docents with a list of the most often asked questions by students (and by teachers, as well!). This type of volunteer position requires dependability and flexibility of schedule. The majority of tours are morning tours from 9am–noon.
You do not have to have previous experience to apply to be a docent, but it does require some individual study time, a flexible schedule, patience and personality. Students are the future of our community and we want to provide them with a positive, exciting and educational visit.
If you are interested in applying for a volunteer tour guide position, you can download the tour guide volunteer application here, as a word doc. (or click here for the application as a PDF). Print and complete your application, then mail it to the Museum, attn. Gina Morey (or e-mail to email@example.com). You may also fill out an application at the Museum admissions desk. Each application will be reviewed and you will be called for training if you meet the requirements.
